Urodził się 1936 r. w Zarzeczu na ziemi cieszyńskiej. W 1955 r. ukończył Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych w Bielsku-Białej. Studiował na Wydziale Akademii Sztuk Pięknych, dyplom uzyskał w roku 1961 w klasie prof. Franciszka Strynkiewicza. Od 1960 roku był pedagogiem macierzystej uczelni, profesorem na Wydziale Rzeźby. W 1982 roku reprezentował Polskę na Biennale Sztuki w Wenecji. Swoje prace pokazywał w wielu galeriach świata. Zrealizował pomniki w kilkunastu miastach w kraju, m.in. Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Częstochowie, Jana Pawła II w Kaliszu, za które otrzymał nagrodę Brata Alberta i Fryderyka Szopena we Wrocławiu. W 2010 r. otrzymał Złoty Wawrzyn Olimpijski, a w 2011 r. złoty medal Gloria Artis. W latach 1992 – 2002 był członkiem Rady Artystycznej Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej w Orońsku. W lata 2003-2006 należał do Centralnej Komisji ds. stopni i tytułów naukowych. Był członkiem Zarządu głównego ZPAP. 2004 r. otrzymał Krzyż Oficerski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski. W swojej sztuce skupia zainteresowania interdyscyplinarne. Troska o samodzielność i autentyczność oraz klarowność intencji jest jednym z głównych problemów jego artystycznych ambicji.
Was born in 1936 in Zarzecz in the Cieszyn land. In 1955 he graduated from High School of Fine Arts in Bielsko-Biała. He studied at the Faculty of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he was awarded a diploma in class of professor Franciszek Strynkiewicz in 1961. He has been teaching in the Sculpture Department of his Alma Mater since 1960 as a professor. In 1982 he represented Poland at the Venice Biennale. He showed his works in many galleries of the world. He has created monuments in several Polish cities, for example to Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in Czestochowa, or Statue of John Paul II in Kalisz, for which he received the Saint Brother Albert’s Award, and Statue of Frederic Chopin in Wroclaw. In 2010 he Received the Olympic Golden Laurel and in 2011 the Gold Medal of Gloria Artis. In the years 1992-2002 he was a member of the artistic Council of the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Oronsko. In 2003-2006, he was a member of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles. He was a member of the Association of Polish Visual Artists General Board. In 2004 he received the Officer’s Cross of the Order Polonia Restituta. In his art, he focuses on interdisciplinary interests. The concern for independence, authenticity and clarity of intent is one of the main priorities of his artistic ambitions.
